Creative Arts Development Plans

The development of arts and culture is an integral component of the mill’s transformation into a multi use destination. Working with In –Situ-In-Place this includes plans for :

  • A creative arts centre is to be provided in the former garage within the mill complex, subject to Arts Council funding being secured.
  • Re-siting/ re-building of the former railway signal box to serve as community heritage venue, subject to funding.
  • A place where arts and culture events take place

The mill, has also served as the venue and inspiration for a range of arts and cultural events and activities over the last few years . Local creative arts organisation In –Situ –In Place has used the mill as a base and for a variety of inspirational exhibitions, workshops and community engagement arts events.

Super Slow Way Project

As part of the Super Slow Way project, a major mass community participation event took place in the mill in September 2016. Orchestrated by international artist Suzanne Lacy, the ‘Shapes of Water; Sounds of Hope’ event involved over 1700 participants, culminating in a large scale community banquet and a singing / sufi chanting event .
