The £32 million transformation of iconic Brierfield Mill into a major mixed use destination for the North West called Northlight is underway.

Our landmark mill occupies a seven acre site in a commanding position alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal with stunning views out to Pendle Hill.

A Powerhouse again!

Once complete Northlight will take centre stage again in the economic fortunes of Lancashire and play a role in the Northern Powerhouse.

The transformation of the Grade II listed building into
a new living, working, learning, leisure and cultural destination
has started.

We took on this challenging complex of historic buildings in 2012 after they’d lain empty for five years.

We are working to transform the seven acre site into a dynamic destination which capitalises on its unique heritage and canalside location.

Through a sensitive restoration with a contemporary design twist, coupled with the creation of a quality landscaped setting, the mill complex is being brought back to life.

We ran a national masterplan design competition in 2013 to fulfil PEARL’S vision for our iconic landmark.

Work started in autumn 2016 on an initial phase of works which are scheduled to be completed in 2018.
