Harrison Drive in Colne

About This Project

Our eco-friendly affordable housing development at Harrison Drive in Colne, Lancashire, which is nearing completion.
The new homes take advantage of the latest in green technologies for their power and heating.

The development has been made possible thanks to £3.5m Homes England Strategic Partnership funding and is the first project of a new partnership called PEARL Together working with Together Housing to provide affordable homes.

Each home will be fully electric. Solar tiles and a battery store will allow electricity from solar power to be used throughout the day.

The homes will be heated by ground source heat pumps. These pumps use pipes to extract natural heat from underground. This system will provide the homes with hot water and heating. Combined, these measures will help lower the homes’ carbon footprint as well as residents’ energy bills.

We are working with Together Housing – a leading provider of quality, affordable homes in the North of England which has ambitions of becoming a carbon zero housing association.

Kevin Ruth, Chief Executive of Together Housing Group, said:
“Through PEARL we are proud to have developed a new partnership called PEARL Together so that we can deliver on our commitment of affordable housing for everybody.
Rising house prices are locking many first-time buyers and people on low incomes out of the housing market – often forcing people to move away from their roots.
At Harrison Drive we’ll be building mainly two and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent which will help individuals, couples and young families to stay in the area they grew up in.
A range of eco-friendly, affordable homes for local people including
43 two-bedroom homes, 28 three-bedroom homes and eight four-bedroom homes.

The ability for people to heat their homes in an affordable and climate friendly way.
The 79 eco-friendly homes have been built on what was an overgrown and difficult to access 2.8 hectare site. We have retained and improved some of the open space to create an attractive development. And the new homes are 21 metres away from the back of existing houses which surround the site on all sides, for a quality environment and breathing space for all.
Pendle Borough Council, Barnfield Investment Properties and Together Housing Group have joined forces as a new joint venture company to offer more housing choice through PEARL Together. Harrison Drive is our first collaboration through this new company.

Barnfield Construction is the main contractor on site with a fantastic track record working with us through Pendle’s joint venture company PEARL – Pendle Enterprise And Regeneration Ltd. We have clocked up a staggering £87 million of projects since we established PEARL over 12 years ago and the new PEARL Together partnership strengthens our ability to provide affordable, eco-friendly housing.

Councillor Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council said: “PEARL continues to be a driving force for regeneration in Pendle, with more schemes in the pipeline.”
